![]() ICAN California Abilities Network launched in 2012. Our goal is to serve individuals with disabilities and their families through life skills training, career services, and social programming. The "I CAN" statement translates to "I CAN work," "I CAN have friends," and "I CAN learn and contribute to my community." The organization was founded in 1975 by Pat Hammond, a teacher for physically disabled individuals. The first name was Acampar, and it offered an engaging, purposeful, and exciting summer camp program. Ever since, we have launched our life skills day program and Paid Internship Program. Today, ICAN is glad to have moved into its own permanent home in Torrance, CA, for more growth and development. With constant contributions from the community and devoted volunteers, ICAN continues to offer important resources and services for people with physical disabilities.
